Thank you for your interest and contribution. I stumbled upon the solution. I found in the settings a command to "rebuild" the database. That made sense because the search seemed to be frozen and was not reporting correctly the number of files on the machine. After rebuilding the database, I closed and re-opened the Everything application. It works as expected now.

This topic may be closed as "resolved".
